Nihal Fırat Özdemir
Dr. Nihal Fırat Özdemir graduated from Istanbul University’s Faculty of Letters, Department of the History of Science. She completed her master’s degree at Marmara University’s Faculty of Theology, Department of the History of Philosophy, with a thesis titled “The Problem of Knowledge in Bertrand Russell in Light of New Realism,” which was later published by Muhayyel Publishing. She also earned a second bachelor’s degree from Marmara University’s Faculty of Communication, Department of Journalism.
Dr. Özdemir obtained her PhD from Medeniyet University’s Department of Philosophy with a dissertation titled “The Circulation Tools of New Knowledge: The Publicization of New Knowledge in 17th-Century England,” which was published by Hiperlink and Ketebe Publishing. She completed a second doctorate at Marmara University’s Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, focusing on “The Circulation Tools of New Science in 19th-Century Ottoman Society.” This work was later published as a book titled The Publicization of New Science in the Ottoman Empire by Ötüken Publishing.
Her research interests include the circulation and popularization of knowledge, as well as science communication. Dr. Özdemir is the producer and coordinator of the Science History Talks program and currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University’s Department of the History of Science. She also serves as the Director of the university’s Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Institute for the History of Islamic Science.
In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Özdemir successfully led the TÜBİTAK Science History Workshops project and actively participates in various civil society organizations.
